Day 4: Page of Swords

Day 4 of Desert Divination: Page of Swords

Sometimes, we’re lucky enough to have a day like the one I had today. One where you get to catch up with some friends that you see fairly regularly, but you’re both always so busy, you don’t get to really stop and connect. Today I reconnected. Today I pulled the Page of Swords.

There is a sharpness to the Page of Swords. The duality I’m toying with in this card is density vs. subtlety. The groundedness of Earth (Pages), contrasted by the lightness and swiftness of Air (Swords). In Qabala, Pages are associated with the 10th Sphere on the Tree of Life, that of Malkuth. The most dense sphere on the tree which is also most closely connected to Earth and materiality. I didn’t realize it until I put this series of desert divinations into practice, but I clearly enjoy recognizing and splashing around in the ebbs and flows of what are generally considered to be juxtaposed principles.

Pages are also associated with youth. Walking around these grounds today, I’m seeing a number of humans who quintessentially embody the Page of Swords archetype. They have so much energy and passion and speed, but they also possess something of a just-getting-started, still-on-the-gound, but-about-to-take-off wholesomeness. Yes, everyone is about to lose their minds and get wild. Some will soar, others will completely crash and burn, but that moment before they take off is so beautiful and filled with anticipation and purity. And by virtue of the fact that they haven’t yet taken off, the reality that they are still grounded is never more apparent.

Sidenote: It also dawns on me that the simple act of having a conversation encapulates Page of Swords energy perfectly. The words themselves are an expression of air (Swords), while the act of bringing those words to life with speech is completely material (Page / Earth). You manifested (Page) a thought (Swords) by speaking it into existence. We are all The Page of Swords.

Now Go. Love.
